Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Sacramento CA
155 PM PDT Tue Oct 8 2024
.Synopsis...
Cool down will begin in ernest Wednesday with temperatures
returning to normal values for rest of the week. Although looking
weak at this time a weather system will bring a chance of rain
starting Saturday.
.Discussion...
Another very warm day today...but a long awaited cool down looks
on track starting tomorrow. We should also get some delta breeze
kicking in this evening to start things off. The above being
caused by a weak upper level wave that is moving across the area
today. It is causing some very light showers which are mainly on
the east side of the Sierra this afternoon.
Wednesday...hardly any moderate level heat risk left as high
temperatures will have a tough time breaking 90 degrees. NBM
showing probabilities of 90 or greater dropping down to 10 to 30%,
so confidence pretty high in this cool down.
Thursday...90 or warmer prababilities drop even further as
westerly flow aloft deepens from a braod upper low dropping south
from Gulf of Alaska.
Friday we will see a continuationg of dropping heights as a chunk
of energy rotates around the upper low and approaches NorCal late
in the day Friday/Friday night. Temperatures look to be generally
in the lower 80s.
&&
.EXTENDED DISCUSSION (Saturday THROUGH Tuesday)...
Saturday...models continue to bring a weakish fast moving upper
wave into the area. Latest runs show probabilities of measurable
moisture dropping a bit as the wave has weakened a bit. Right now
best chances of rain appear to be over the west and northern
portions of the forecast area. The system not looking like a
strong heavy rain threat but relief to the heat and any rain will
help with fire weather situation. Rasch

.AVIATION...
VFR conditions are expected over interior northern California for
the next 24 hours. Sustained surface winds will generally be
below 12 knots, but gusts up to 15 kts will be possible through
the Delta and northern San Joaquin Valley between 20z Tues - 02z
Wednesday.
&&
.STO WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES...
None.
